Have you ever performed a search on the Web and entered a site that has nothing to do with what you were looking for ? Sure you do, we all do.
Sometimes, the root of all evil is the ambiguity of the human language and we should accept that.
But what cannot be accepted is having been deliberately misguided by some individuals.
Their goal is to attract you to their sites and get your click to make money. There nothing wrong with getting revenues from advertising, but when used practices are based on cheating people, they make many people loose time.
Google has sophisticated technologies to choose the most appropriate results from a user search, and advices webmasters to provide a clear content that can be easily interpreted by users and indexing bots.
However, many methods exist to bypass normal behavior and get unappropriate content to the top of the search. Those spamdexing tricks, well known by spammers consist of generating different content to robots (GoogleBot) and users, hiding links, text or pages (cloaking), repeating words in excess to be seen on those keywords, duplicating content, redirecting abusively, creating satellite sites (doorway), ...
In order to fight thoses practices and preserve welfare of their users, Google opened a service for reporting Web spam. This is a form where disappointed users can explicitely report a site or a page as being spam. You can access it at http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html.
The form requests that you enter the original Google query, the url of the page where results are displayed and the suspicious page url. One can think that loading Google SpamReport service and filling all those field is not worth the effort. As a result, many users do not report those abuses.
We are offering a tool for simplifying the reporting process. Our SpamReport software is a Firefox extension that allows the user to notify a suspicious site to Google in only 2 clicks. When you enter a faulty page as a result of a google search, click on the SpamReport toolbar button. A form appears, with most fields already filled for you, taking care of hidden redirections. You can eventually provide additional information then click Submit and you are done !
Our site and SpamReport extension are not Google services and we have no affiliations with them. We simply share the desire to reduce spammer activities on our Net.
